The Ultimate Log Home Playlist

What is the ultimate log home playlist? Is it songs about nature? Freedom from modern life’s hectic pace? Or is it simply music that celebrates the comfort of a loving home?

Some of our favorite evenings have included opening a bottle of wine, throwing some steaks on the grill, and listening to a little music on our deck while watching the sun go down. That got us thinking: what is the ultimate log home playlist? Is it songs about nature? Freedom from modern life’s hectic pace? Or is it simply music that celebrates the comfort of a loving home?

musicians in log home The Editors of Log Home Living have put together what we consider the Ultimate Log Home Play List. These aren’t hard rockers: These are songs about the simple life, and most of them have a bit of country flair. And of course, we couldn’t resist including more tongue-in-cheek selections like Patty Loveless’ “Timber, I’m Falling in Love” and “An Old Log Cabin for Sale” by country legend Porter Wagoner. .

Song #1 Creedence Clearwater Revival: Lookin’ Out My Back Door

CCR’s John Fogerty wrote this song in 1970 for his 3-year old son, and it’s the perfect mixture of upbeat, goofy and relaxed. We love that one of the first lines is, “Got to sit down take a rest on the porch.” Now here’s a guy who understands the cabin lifestyle.

Song #2 Patty Loveless: Timber, I'm Falling in Love

We couldn’t resist! Check out this video of Patty Loveless and Vince Gill performing this little gem of a song at the Grand Ol’ Opry.

Song #3: John Denver: "Rocky Mountain High"

Could this be the ultimate anthem for anyone who has ever wanted to live in a mountain chalet? John Denver gets it; this song about opting for a quiet life in the mountains is as beautiful as it is uplifiting.

Song #4: Porter Wagoner: "An Old Log Cabin for Sale"

And the sign read "An old cabin for sale An old oaken bucket and well. "Easy terms, just keep a log on the fire And a light burning bright in the dell."

Song #5 Linda Ronstadt: "Blue Bayou"

Originally written and performed by Roy Orbison, “Blue Bayou” was a big hit for Linda Ronstadt in the 70s. We love this song’s longing for the simple life: sleeping, fishing, watching the sun rise, and of course, “the silver moon and the evening tide.”

Song #6: Eagles: "Peaceful Easy Feeling"

What would the Ultimate Log Home Play List be without at least one Eagles song? Though we could think of a few others that would fit equally well, like “No More Walks In the Woods,” “Seven Bridges Road,” and “Desperado,” just to name a few.

Song #7: Joe Walsh: "Rocky Mountain Way"

So what if the lyrics to Joe Walsh’s Rocky Mountain Way don’t make much sense? It’s still feels like this song is about escaping into the mountains. Or something! Open a cold one and enjoy this video of the Eagles performing this classic in 1977.

Song #8: Neil Young: "Harvest Moon"

Time for a bit of romance, courtesy of the great Neil Young. There's a full moon risin' Let's go dancin' in the light We know where the music's playin' Let's go out and feel the night.

Song #9 Rodney Atkins: "Cabin in the Woods"

Across that gravel road that winds back into the trees. You'd never know just over that hill there's a little log house by a spring Fed creek where the blue bells grow so thick you wouldn't believe. And he said it would be ok if we wanted to use it for a weekend getaway.

Song #10 Mark Taylor: “Little Old Log Cabin”

In my dear old home I was happy as I could be Where the mocking birds sang every night while I rest In that little old log cabin by the sea
