I’m Justin Gordon, the owner of www.ElwinDesigns.com, a sculpture company. I’ve been carving since 1974. My designs range from the abstract to comical and I enjoy most carving figurative sculptures and architectural elements. My self-taught sculpting ability and mechanical engineering degree come together in my over 43 years of carving experience and abilities. As an example, a great project for me was: “A support beam to hold up a log cabin’s loft that’s sculpted into a life-size eagle fighting a life-size bear for a large Bass fish with a loon and a weasel nestled in some rocks that also has to be the equivalent of an 8 x 8 support beam at a specific height that includes a section for a height adjustment during installation”. I work with my clients to find out exactly what they want so they get what they want and within their budget. Inquiries may require many questions to make sure each detail is defined, dimensioned, and described, so I know what my clients expect. The adage “Measure twice, cut once” not only applies to wood working but to the design process as well. Clients have to know all their options before they decide. Questions often bring out new ideas or other design options not yet thought of. When a client can tell me what they want, it’s great, and most of the work is done. It’s figuring out what you can have from the multitude of choices that’s the hard part. The sculpting of the project is the easy part.
From sculpted support beams, figurative vanity legs, or custom and personalized fireplace mantels, to a carved front door, table top fine sculptures, or a caricature of Grandpa when he makes that funny face, ideas are plenty. I can make anything you can think of and anything you haven’t thought of yet. Visit me at my website or do like us techno dinosaurs do and just call.
