Hochstetler Milling National Log Homes Month

After being in business for over 33 years Hochstetler’s reputation has indeed become “someone you can trust.” There is no real secret to this; only steadily taking care of client’s needs, “one customer at a time.”

The business had a very humble beginning. Levi, with a formal education of 8 years, started the business when only 22 years old. First, he set the planer he bought out in his dad’s field on a slab, covering it each evening with a tarp. Later, a small roof was added over the planer. The planer was powered with an international motor taken out of an old truck. The blower was powered with an old jeep motor. Several years later he finally built a 32x96 foot shed over the whole operation.

Levi has said that what he had, a lot of other manufactures didn’t was that he came from a builder’s background having helped build his first log home when 17 years old. He believes this helps Hochstetler  as a company to design homes and details that are easier to build and at the same time with fewer waists. This is achieved as an example; whenever possible, we design in 16, 24, 32 or 48 inch increments. Even our stacking logs are designed with the builder in mind such as our popular tapered tongue & groove which helps the builder quickly align each log.

Today there is over 40,000 square feet under roof, which includes ample room for under roof storage, plus a sawmill, dry kilns and two models; one 2,000 square feet and another just over 1,100. This is operated by our well-rounded team of 20+ employees with various skills, from manufacturing to designers to an in-house architectural engineer. Our two models are open to the public daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and closed on Sunday. Needless to say we are well equipped to serve you.

While we can provide different components that clients may want. Most of our customers appreciate our “one stop shop” operation. This includes everything from the foundation up, from the closet rods and finish nails up to the big heavy timbers for the roof.

We get a lot of positive comments from our clients. Alan Doyle from Ohio said, “Building a log home is not an easy task but people at Hochstetler made the process go smoothly. They were always available by phone to answer questions that came up. I ordered a complete package and all the material was there with no missing items.” Or as Ted and Jane from Tennessee commented, “From start to finish we had an excellent experience. Your response to added material was quick and complete. The quality of material was outstanding and many of my other sub-contractors remarked on it as well.” While all of this is good our goal is to be here for them for many years to come.

We welcome you to come and visit us and see first-hand the quality of our material, and tour our facility and log home models. During July, celebrating “log home month,” we have an open house here during the first week and log home raisings in various parts of the country during the month.
