Log Home Living's editors share their New Year's resolutions for 2008.

Happy New Year

With each New Year we find ourselves making a host of resolutions which we promise ourselves we'll start to live by. From getting more exercise to eating (or working!) less, we're all familiar with the routine of making annual commitments in January.

But we don't always stay very...committed.

So this year we at Log Home Living magazine challenge you to make a resolution in terms of realizing your log home dream. It doesn't have to be complex (it may even help for it to be simple) or life-changing, but it should help to move you in the right direction.

It may be buying that first piece of land (or at least starting to look for it), choosing a floorplan (or deciding a square footage range), or even as simple as making a list of wood species you'd like to select from.

Whatever it is, we want to hear about it. And we want you to commit to getting it done in 2008. Like they always say, Rome wasn't built in a day...and neither are most log homes.

But with every step—no matter how small—you will be closer to realizing your dream. So share your resolutions with us today. They don't even have to be log-related (but we strongly encourage it!)

Here are a few of ours to get the ball rolling:

2. Swim in the Atlantic Ocean at dawn and, in the same day, drive to the Shenandoah Mountains and swim in an spring-fed pond at dusk.

Clare Martin photo 1. Stop spending so much money on "stuff" (my apartment is cluttered enough as it is) and reserve it instead for experiences.

2. In conjunction with #1, visit as many amazing places as possible--London, Seattle/Portland and Peru are already in the works.

3. Spend less time planning for and dreaming about the future, and find a way to savor and appreciate each day as it comes.

 1. Get back to "playing shape." And by this I mean "the shape I was in before I started working in an office (and setting a company-wide record with my soda tab).

2. Go on more road trips. Come on, do I even need to elaborate on why this is a good resolution?

3. Learn how to save money. (I think this will be one for the next 5-10 years).
