MossCreek uses a collection of rustic elements in a cabin that's both timeless and cutting-edge.
Located on the waterfront of Payette Lake in McCall, Idaho, Mark and Lana Hollingshead's hybrid vacation home is a far cry from the property's original house–a ramshackle cabin beaten down by the elements with bug-infested logs. Built on the old cabin's footprint with just more than 2,400 square feet of living space, their new three-bedroom MossCreek home with a loft offers a much-needed retreat for the Boise-based couple and their three teenagers. Appearance is deceiving, though: Although a recent construction, the home boasts MossCreek's well-known mixture of rustic and retro design elements--from roughened, hand-hewn, 8-by-12-inch rectangular pine logs with dovetail notches and chinking, to red-stained board-and-batten cedar siding and cedar shakes resembling an old barn--resulting in a timeless lakeside beauty with well-worn appeal.
